Taking the role as the intrepid French poet inspired by the real-life photographer Felix Nadar. Ardan proposes that he should travel in the projectile and go to the moon in order to profit. He unwittingly falls in love just before he is destined
to leave the Earth forever.

BLACKWELL
ELIZABETH BLACKWELL - Played by AUDREY TAUTOU
Fronting the female lead and based on a true character, Blackwell is a strong willed woman who has become the first ever woman head surgeon in a male dominated field. Posted at the cannon build site, she soon falls to the charms of Ardan who treats her as equal. Only the reunion with her father splits her emotions as she realises that she might loose them both forever.

As the leading expert in gunpowder, Morgan is present from the start of the build in the select committee. His dry wit under such dangerous circumstances provide comic relief in times of stress.

Taking charge of the construction of the cannon, Elphinstone is the leading expert in engineering and artillery. It is his plans that everyone is following and holds a great responsibility to its completion on time, no corners would be cut under his watch

JAMES T. MASTON - Played by BRIAN BLESSED
As Barbicanes most loyal and best friend, there is nothing that Maston wouldn't do to help in anyway. After being disappointed that he will be joining the others to the moon, he makes camp inside the observatory to watch relentlessly for any sign of their arrival.
